Default Bamboo

I have got the main part of my viv built now, hubby insisted on using 18mm MDF and now we need to get Wimpey in with a crane to move it about the place

Anyway, I want to use the really thick Bamboo to make platforms etc in it like branches, I'm sure I can get it cheaper from the local garden centre than from livefoods etc, but I'm guessing that I need to steralize it etc first? If so, How? It won't fit in my oven for a start

Any advice would be good, piccys to come later on of the bit I've got done so far, need to run down with the camera My new shiny MVB arrived today, and the fitting arrived yesterday

This is the new corner viv, it's actually 4 foot high (total height), and 3 foot 5 inches across, the actual viv which is the top section is 3 foot high, the 1 foot underneath will be a cupboard for storage etc. I will be starting the staining later on this evening. I still need to make the top and bottom runner rails to sit the glass runners onto. I've got 2 chrome coloured adjustable vents in the top, but may add more if heat becomes and issue, I'm probably going to install a small fan in the very top in the side to circulate air as well.

I put my Westie (toki) inside to give a better idea of size, and my cocker spaniel (kuro) decided it was play time, so they became a nice blur, typical!

I still have to build some platforms etc in there including a basking platform for them, with lots of bamboo (I hope) running from side to side, so they hold have loads of extra floor space. The dishes in the piccy are about 30cm diameter, I bought 1 for food and one for water/paddling pool, as they usually get in it rather than drink it

Trip to the garden centre it is for me then, followed by bathing lots of bamboo Thanks for the info Ste, your a minefield as usual

It's looking ok so far, I just have to resist the temptation to over decorate!

The westie usually tries to get in with the dragons in their current viv, in this weather I don't blame her either, I may get in myself! We had to evict my son out of there on the weekend (he's 7), we wandered off for a bit, and when we came back he'd built a den in there and covered it all over! Now he's decided he wants his own

quick question... If it's a corner viv aren't the vents going to be right up against a wall and air won't be able to get in?

Hi Meko

Understand where you are coming from, but we have laminate flooring, and instead of using that really expensive stuff to cover the gap infront of the skirting we have put architrave down which was really cheap and very effective when stained medium oak, so basically the viv will but up against that which will keep it about 3 inches out from the wall on the back and right hand side, and I'm planning on putting a fan in the top right side to circulate the air around, so it should be fine.

Also, our house is still a little draughty even with the double glazing, so there is always a little extra air wafting around the living room

In Ethan's case I think one of those wire cages you keep chinchillas in would probably be more suitable, or a gorilla cage

I'll post more piccys as I work through the project, I'm hoping to get it to the almost finished stage this weekend, as I am running out of time in case my eggies hatch!
