Default Heating

Hi All

I've set up my 2ft by 1ft viv for my baby beardie which i'm purchasing soon, just want to make sure i have everything right. I'v got a 75w sunglo basking light with a wooden log underneath (do i need a guard to cover light), also a repti glo 10.0uvb light for the length of the enclosure and a 50w nightglo bulb if needed. All i'm waiting on is dimming thermosat. The floor is covered in reptile carpet and i've small water dish. Is this enough or have i missed anything out. I also have a few heat mats that i could use if needed.

Any info would help sounds like a lot of heat don't want to cook the poor thing?

Regards
Peter

I am currently using two 2' x 1' tanks to house a few holdbacks. Using a 40W bulb gives me a basking temperature of 110F, so 75W may well be a bit much - make sure the stat is accurate and set up right!! And you shouldn't need a bulb at night unless your room gets very cold - beardeds need a good few hours of coolness at night.

UV bulbs don't work with thermostats. I'm not quite sure what that means... i don't know whether it will just not work, blow up, not give off UV or what, i just know that it is not recommended to use them together.

So, you either need to scrap the Sunglo for a standard spot light or get a lower wattage that you don't need a thermostat for because it will never get hot enough to fry your baby.

Yes, i'd suggest a light guard just because you need to prepare for the unexpected

probably will work together but it's just pointless. The UV strip lights don't generate much heat so the thermostat will just sit there doing nothing.

i think some of you have your wires crossed, the thermostat would surely be linked to the 75w sun glo's like mine is, the reptisun 10.0 tube (which is UVB) will run without a thermostat.

The 75w sun glos only give off UVA rays and other visible light wavelengths, they are a tight beam basking lamp not a tube.

hope that clears a few points up,

by the way the setup sounds good, i would link the 75w sunglo to the dimmable stat and set it at just below your max temp range. then run a small heat mat that spprox 1/2 to 1/3 the size of your viv floor, this would not need to be run on a stat and could stay on 24/7.

havn't got much experience on beardies, but would work perfectly for geckos (minus the UVB as its not really needed for lep geks)

all the best mate, hope it all turns out ok, if not just ask! this is a great forum and someone will always help out.

I'd bung a couple of hides in there as well, just so the BD can get out of the heat and UV if it wants to.
Heat mats aren't needed for BD's as they dont use belly heat and I recommend that ALL bulbs are guarded just as a precaution, even if the BD cant reach it, my girl can jump from the floor to a branch that is 15 inches off of the floor so they can get to things you think they cant reach.
