Default Planted Vivarium Progress (Crestie)

Here's my new little guy...

This is some of the materials, including viv, filter, pump, tubing, coco block, grape vine, pots, plants, cocktail sticks, polystyrene boards and aquarium rock. Grout, sand, micro pebbles, large and small rocks where out of sight of the camera.

Polystyrene to begin with, shows the lower mesh cage for the filter and pump with access...

Cocktail sticks holding it all together...

Placing the planters...

The messy bit...

The messier bit... This was actually the second coat. The first coat I used medium-thin grout mix and literally poured it in every gap i could find before pouring it over the rest. In this second coat I used a thick grout mix and a paint brush to get 'peaks' when dabbing it on for texture.

Cleo helping out...

Second coat close up (and nearly dry)... you can see some areas with no texture still from where I poured thin layers on first...

Final coat, even thicker grout, wouldnt even pour when turned upside down. Used to add more peaks over the second coats drying peaks for max' detail. Going for an igneous rock look.

Checking it still fits....

This this is where I'm at this morning, a very dry, very hard finished grout job ready for some LIGHT sanding down (just loose and spikey bits, aswell as the top lip and edges that touch the glass)

Next up is painting

Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.
