Default Anyone use Lucky Reptile stats?

Hi all,

I'm about to set up a bigger viv for our beardie and was looking for a new day/night stat to run it when the missus found a site selling the Lucky Reptile Thermo Control Pro II for £35.75.

For this you get a stat with a built-in digital thermometer and timer to control the day/night temps.

What I was wondering is are these stats any good as I've only ever used Microclimate and Habistat ones before and don't want to buy this if its going to turn out to be a load of crap.

I use the thermo control 2 on my adult rack(i got 3 of them), no complaints, controls the temp really well, and as long as you set the alarm up correctly, theres no problem

on / off..
not sure about the pro.. but i know the thermo control 2 has a timer but it isnt for day / night temperature, just a seperate socket for running a light for day / night cycle... i use them on my rack aswell, wouldnt use them with a heat lamp though due to them being on/off and not dimming.. :/

I have two of these exact stats, they are packed with features and in theory they blow everything else out of the water (can't tell you about longevity cause I've only had mine for 6 months).

There are two drawbacks to them though:
1)They are on/off, I have used mine on heat mats and on a tubular heater, but no good for lights or ceramics.
2) They are only sensitive to 1degree. So, the temperature will fluctuate between 26-27 at the probe placement, whereas my pulse prop stats will stay at exactly 26.6C, for example. Not a problem in a big viv, but could be a pain in the arse if used for multiple mats in racks.

£35 is a good price, best I've found them for is £45, can I ask where you've found 'em?

Cheers,
Charlie

I haven't tried cause on/off stats are said to dramatically shorten the life of ceramic bulbs. I emailed Lucky Reptile to ask why they didn't do pulse prop stats, apparently there isn't much of a demand for them outside the UK, and, as Germany is their main market, it's not cost effective to make them. The guy was pretty pleased to receive feedback, and seemed fairly responsive so if enough people ask them to do a pulse prop range, perhaps they will! He did tell me they were developing a dimmer version though.
