Default matt stat and set-up for royal

I have a 4x2x2 viv ready for my royal.............it has orchid bark substrate wood and hides with sum moss under one of the pieces of wood.
A 40w bulb up one end caged and a matt on the floor up the warm end.

I got told to put the sensor 2 inches above the mat and substrate but i have found the bark didnt get warm or hot but the matt was really hot so i placed the sensor directly onto the matt. Is this right?????????

Middle of my tank is 75 degrees Does this sound ok????? or 60w bulb?

shall i keep the matt??????????????
