Default UV lights

Just getting a second opinion here. UV lights don't need a thermostat do they? I'm talking about the kind that re a small bulb screwed into the same sort of fixture as a heat lamp. The UV light would be used with a heat lamp for a Yemen Chameleon.
Thanks
