Default different grades Sphagnum Moss

Im curious is the moss that i get from reptile stores a whole different grade to ones found in garden centres as u seem to be able to buy twice the size for less money in most garden centres.

Well i know of a shop who buys bags of moss from the garden centres and seperates the one big bag into smaller bags and sells them on at the same price as the big bag costs.
Also i would suspect that the 'branded' bags of moss, such as Exo Terras moss would be treated to get rid of any pests etc but i am not entirely sure. Where as the garden centres moss is often untreated meaning that it may contain mites etc but i would bake both regardless anyway lol, just to be sure.

I buy moss from B&Q. I put it in the oven at 120'C for one hour to kill any possible nasties etc and then give it a rinse and it is ready to use. I haven't had any mites etc since i have kept snakes (2 years+), i have used this moss now for about a year. My local B&Q don't have the moss atm, probs due to the season, so i go to my local flourist and get a big bag for £4.97 and do exactly the same, and again haven't had any probs as of yet (fingers crossed, i never will)

Garden centre moss sometimes has a dye added to make it look greener.
I always rince it through and leave it to soak in a bucket of rainwater for a couple of weeks before I use it.
