Default heating advice please

this is for my little royal and need heating advice please
hes currently in a faunarium which is inside a viv with heatmat under 1 end (of the faunarium)

got him a new viv (2second hand) which is 18"Wx18"Hx15"D and wondering about best way to heat it for a royal

id guess its too small for a ceramic so guess its a heatmat but how big and where?
inside? outside? bottom?side? will have a matstat available from the 3ft viv to use. dont currently have a mat that will fit inside on bottom and only about 1/3 of viv size but can order
where ever it goes should i cover it with some sort of tile? have concerns of burning snake and not heating viv sufficently
if best way is to use a mat under one end of viv then i could use one of my larger mats maybe? will heat get through wood well enough?

am i waffling? lol

thanks
tricky

The heat mat should be controlled by the mat stat you have, you can then place it in the viv (mat size should be 1/3 of the base of the viv). You can then either place a ceramic tile over the mat or build a false floor using polycarbonate sheet and some sort of beading to lift the shhet off the mat by a few mm, this will protect your snake from the mat it also makes the viv easy to clean.
Hopes this helps.
