Default making vivs out of tanks and making holes!

Hi all have got hold of some three foot tanks that i am going to put on their sides and put runners and glass in etc.
I`m concerned about circulation though would there be enough airflow through the sliding front glasses ? I was thinking of trying to make some square holes in the sides of the tanks by heavily scribing a small area with a glass cutter and tapping it through then glueing some tpe of grill in place is this destined to fail?
Any thoughts?

Cheers G

if its toughend glass then it will def smash at the slightest cutting/hole making attempt.what are you planning to keep, some reps dont need as much airflow as others.

i dont think there would be enough air flow just through sliding doors. are tanks made of glass? if so may be best to take it to glaziers and get them to do it - will cost a bit more but they cut holes all the time, a circular hole would be strongest square ones can crack on corners, get them to cut it same size as vents (i have them in 3 sizes - PLUG!! PLUG!!.) i would not risk doing it myself!

even glaziers and glass cutters cannot make holes in toughend glass,i asked them just the other day and they said the whole lot would just shatter.you could get perspex doors made to size and have holes cut in that or just use a 10mm drill bit and drill a load of holes in.

i know you cant cut toughened glass but he want to put vents in sides of tank so ot depends if tank is normal or toughened. other option is to fit wood stip above or below glass doors with vents in these.

As Lotus Nut said, or have one of the siding doors made out of mesh?

You could cut the silicone that holds a side on, which would be the top and remove a side and put a supporting bar back at the front for the sliders to fit to and have a mess top.

I know what i mean ???
