Default Okay, so what is the Ideal...?

Society Show?

What makes for a good quality show, presented from one of the societies.

What should it be providing the member?

What should they [society] be providing to their members at these shows?

What should the code of practice for shows implement?

How will codes of practice affect them?

Will codes of practice be adhered to?

Will the societies accept a code of practice when they have to date neglected to adopt one?

Rory

I feel that...

Caresheets should be provided.
Antibacterial hand cleaner used by both seller and buyer when handling any reptiles.
All reptiles should be housed seperately.
Feeding charts should be provided wherever possible.
The sellers name, and a contact number / address or email should be provided should the buyer have any future questions. One thing that often causes problems is the anonymous nature of shows - you have absolutely no idea who you bought from a majority of the time and no way to contact them should you have a problem or query.
Receipts should always be given.

I think the only thing the society should do is be strict about what the traders should be doing. It is really up to the traders in my opinion to have high standards for themselves.

Educational angles for new keepers and the younger keepers.
Openly displayed care information for species

What should it be providing the member?
An opportunity to buy healthy, well cared for animals in a clean environment.
A chance to promote the hobby we love in the best possible way.

What should they [society] be providing to their members at these shows?
Regulated sellers who follow a good code of practice.
I feel the bulk of the things are up to sellers individually but should be overseen by the society.
Information stands informing keepers of changes ot legislation etc

What should the code of practice for shows implement?
A minimum sized tub for each species with adequate water, heat and hides etc
Antibacterial handwash on each table with a strict guideline for it being used by sellers and buyers alike.
Good care information both displayed and given out to people be they buyers or not.
Sellers to have contact information displayed on thier tables and receipts with contact details on so people can get in touch after the show should they need/wish to.
A separate food/drinks area to promote hygeine upkeep - so maybe no food inside show area?

How will codes of practice affect them?
The society? I don't feel it should affect them in any way but positively. It will show the antis and non-exotics keepers that as a whole the people involved in the hobby are responsible and have the animal's welfare at the forpoint of thier concern for such events.

The sellers? Again, I feel it should be a necessary practice within shows for the above reasons.

The buyers? It should give them a peace of mind that the animals have not suffered any undue stress during the show and the knowledge that the keepers do have to follow a guideline procedure other than fit as much as you cna on your table with maximum profit in mind.

(again I have not been to a show so am NOT in any way saying this is what sellers are like )

Will codes of practice be adhered to?
See above

Will the societies accept a code of practice when they have to date neglected to adopt one?
I don't see that there is any reason ofr them not to! It is all in view to show a more responsible and healthy attitude towards the hobby. If someone attended Crufts and didn't offer thier dog water, they would be slammed by the Kennel club and the bodies who organise it - why should exotics be any different?

A code of practice would only prove to be a god way forward for the hobby in general and would certianly help towards sellers and buyers alike taking a more positive attitude towards shows.

Rory
Hope someo f that makes sense - I will nodoubt think of other stuff too
