Hi all, ive been a member for a few weeks now and thought its about time i said hello properly and let you all know about me and mine!
hello my names shane and im a...................oh no wrong forum (sry) me name is shane and im an old git at 29, ive kept reptiles on and off for about 19/20 years and seriously kept them for 6/7..i live with my missus lyn and my son charlie 6 and we have another little lad on the way (Harry:4 weeks left )Lyn and me received funding from the princess trust late last year to set up our own reptile breeding/sales business from home (SLITHERIN) and have just been granted a pet shop licence for our home address! its taken untill now to get things ready but we are nearly there.. i spent a fortune(thousands) on vivs and stuff just getting ready to take some stock in which im in the process of doing now. like i said im going to try and breed a lot of my own stock(NOT FANCY CORNS LOLOL) and do most of my trade through the Internet as working from home i wont get things like passing trade, also some of my reptiles will never be for sale as these are my pets!! ive just taken in a young frillie and im picking two adult boas and other bits up from hull reptile rescue and animals like this will NEVER be sold as im taking these in to offer a good permanent home. basically the business will "hopefully" pay for my hobby and nothing more. (i havnt got round to it yet but theres a few people on here i want to speak too regarding trade discount) i know ill get asked about the pet shop licence so ill elaborate.. all councils have there own policies and prices but this is whats relevant to me.. you dont need a petshop licence to sell any reptiles you breed your self (or for others for that matter) but if you buy intentionally to sell you do! your classed as a trader and as such need a trading licence(petshop licence) which runs annually from jan to jan at a cost of £80...before issuing a licence you will be inspected by head of petshop licencing from your local council to check the suitability of the premises/knowledge of animals to be kept/the welfare of the animals kept and believe it or not that you are able to offer sound advice on the animals kept should someone ask! (i was checked by a lovely lady called Hellen Bell) and approved (currently we are waiting for the licence to be issued, then ill have a number to offer traders!!) i was lucky enough to have a good contact in a reptile shop who knew our situation and helped enormously with contacts when nobody else would look at us (no licence) so ive been able to get set up with out too much trouble(i wouldnt of said that at the time)oh yeah i still have a proper job!!!!!!!!! im a self employed joiner(loft conversions) just incase you think selling reptiles makes you a millionair!! anyway this is turning into a novel init i hope to have a web site running in a few weeks but if any one is looking for out and is strugling give us an email @ shane-slitherin@hotmail.co.uk you never know!!! or a ring on 07952 800 103 land line on request (not a business line!!)(do you know how much they cost!!!!!!!!!!!!) hope to do a bit of buisiness with you all.......;....shane x xx |
