I agree with andyj

What sort of set up do you have him in?

Only ask as if you arnt sure what type of lizard it is, how do you know its needs.

Thanks for the replys

At the moment its in a small 18" cube, not ideal i would agree.

We have a 36*18*18inch tank built into the alcove that use to have south African chiclids in.

This is the plan so far:
3D concrete background
play sand substrate
rocks and wood
a few plastic plants for colour

as for the technical side we have a heater rock (you can see in the pics), my husband has a few spare 6700k 25watts fluro tubes from his old planted tank for light and a large bulb for heat.
Were looking into a blue or red bulb for night as well

Is that the exo-terra heat rock? What are your opinions on them?

It is a desert spiny lizard and as far as I mind youll be able to tell its gender by turning it over - if its got blue on its belly its a male I think. They used to be called fence lizards as well. Hope this helps!

ps welcome to the forum!

Hi and to the forum

I just found this care sheet for the desert spiny lizard and if this is what you have then it would need a UV light rather than the usual fishtank bulb.

Hope this helps

Silvershark..... i cant comment on it as i don't know what make it is, and i have not had it that long.
All i can say is the lizard likes it, we leave it on all night so it has a chose.

chocolatecolubrid.... I've done some research on this and it looks like it to me, i have not turned it over yet to see, but will do soon.

Greenphase.... when you say UV you mean the type you would use in a UV sterilizer that would be use in an aquarium or koi pond?

Have you any links to suitable UV bulbs/tubes for a 36*18*18" 180ltr tank.

Thanks all you have been most help full so far.

I think that care sheet is for the Spiny Tailed Lizard (uromastyx) not trying to be clever just so soniabrown123 knows

Try this one: http://www.anapsid.org/swifts.html

I could be wrong but i think if it is a desert spiny then you dont need to spray twice a day going by what the care sheet says. I will ask someone i know who has kept them before and find out exactly how you should be keeping him
