Hi All, just thought I'd pop in and introduce myself.
My name is Shaz, and I am from Widnes in Cheshire. We (the family) have been keeping reptiles for the last 6 years, due to my eldest sons interest in them. He wants to be the next Steve Irwin (lol) and has been a rep enthusiast since he was 3 years old, and we finally succumbed and got him his first snake at the age of 9. Subsequently the whole family is now hoked and we have a pretty varied collection that you can see below my posts. Most of our reps have come to us as rehomes, because they were no longer wanted or because they have defects. We dont care about what they look like or their history, we have them as pets and any that come to us will be loved and cared for by us all until they slither off this mortal coil. Some of our reps are used by my son and hubby in reptile educational talks, to people from 2 years old to 102 years old. We aim to educate people in the correct husbandry of reptiles, to dispel any preconceived myths about reptiles, and also to educate people as to why a reptile is a lifelong commitment, and our favourite bit....why iguanas make bad pets (lol) A selection of our reps are taken along for people to look at and touch, and we provide care sheets and trivia/puzzle sheets for the younger members. We are regularly used by The Princes Trust in ther courses, and by Halton Borough Council for many of their functions and fun days. Our eldest boy J who is 14, helps out with the iguanas in the town park once or twice a week, often giving impromptu talks to the visitors there. I love all our reps and find them a joy to have and watch, and to share our house with, but my fave has to be our darling 5 foot green iguana called Eddie, who has the grumpiest nature, but the sweetest, noblest face, that she is my little scaly princess!! so thats about it for now, I think I have gone on enough. Thanks so much for reading shaz xxx |
