Default Monkey Tailed Crew (big pics warning)

Heya,
Thought I would upload some pics, as there dont seem to be many people posting photies of these...I absolutely adore these skinks, and would love to see anyone elses pics!

Friendly Kaiser, my original male. Arguably my favourite skink, as he is so mellow. He is the only skink that will come willingly over to people - as a matter of fact, he seems to prefer people to being left alone!

Angry "Fatty" Nimbus, my first female. She is a very moody individual and will take it out on anyone, even Kaiser if he aggravates her too much. We're hoping shes gravid, but wont know for certain until late December.

Gentle Altjira ("Big Al"). Al is the mellowest skink I have ever met.

Fearless Jabari (with Altjira) is not at all afraid of people, and will come to the front of the cage waiting for handfed treats - but will give you plenty of warning if you get too close.

"Howling Mad" Murdock - the crazy skink. Anyone opening the cage will immediately have Murdock on their case - whether he will bite or just try and climb you is anyones guess.

Quiet Aquila - generally shy and watchful, and not aggressive.

Suspicious Bali - Bali is the most secretive of all the skinks, and takes great pains to avoid being spotted by humans. If approached, she can be extremely aggressive.

Tough Gremlin - she came to me very thin, but with a good appetite and she is eating like a pig. She can be a bit flighty, but is generally more inquisitive than fearful.

Little No-Name skink - living with Altjira and Jabari, but will eventually have to be separated due to his gender (plus it seems that Jabari tolerates him but doesnt really like him that much!)

Cracking pictures Jo, I'll try and get some of our pair in the next few days. I think the reason you don't see many photomagraphs of them is that not many people have got them...put off by the prices they command perhaps?

Fingers crossed she is up the duff

Thanks They are absolutely wonderful to keep - my favourite reps Theyre not really "hands on" as their claws are so sharp and most of them dont like being held, but there are some exceptions - Kaiser and Altjira are pretty relaxed when being held. Theyre totally herbivorous and completely arboreal, so need lots of climbing apparatus. Theyre crepuscular as well, hiding in nooks and crannies in the day, which means theyre out and about when I get home from work - a real bonus! Theyre not too tough to keep - just need a really varied diet, lots of space to move and high humidity/moderate temperatures. Some people dont use UVB with them, but Ive been advised to by other breeders and they do come out to bask from time to time so I imagine they would naturally get some rays in the wild.

Thanks Its a shame there arent more around, I really love looking at these and talking about them! I do think some people are put off by the prices (especially when shops usually sell them for ridiculously extortionate prices), which I guess can be a positive or negative thing - positive as it keeps people from buying them on a whim, but possibly bad as it means the animals can sit in shops for ages...when I got my first two the shops I spoke to all said they had had theirs on display for months or even years!

Id love to see pics of yours! Im really hoping that Nimbus is gravid - she is enormous and mating was observed in April and May - and the wait is killing me!

Missed a couple;

Its hard to get a good pic of this, but I wanted to show how strong they are. This is Murdock using just his back legs and tail to hold himself perfectly horizontal to try and grab my leg. They can also stand straight upwards, hang from one foot or just the tail, and pull themselves up using just their tail and body muscles.

Snack time! Jabari and Altjira are awesome, as they will congregate at the bottom of their cage to be fed snacks - my boyfriend and I just sit on the floor with the door open feeding them. If only one is around, the other will soon follow - its awesome sitting under the "canopy" and having them climb down around you! Little No-Name Skink is more shy, but will usually come down and hang around the back of the cage waiting for bits to be dropped near him.

Lol, thats very kind of you They are well-loved; I have had to reduce my collection to house them all, as we're in a rented house and only allowed a set number of herps...we're lucky to have a landlord that doesnt mind them!
