Lol, as much as we would love the tegu to roam around, he is very messy and destroys everything in his path - and while we're living in a rented house, thats not good! He also doesnt like to poo in his cage, so if hes allowed to roam about he WILL take the opportunity to empty his bowels before he goes back. The closest he gets is to come out and sit on the couch with us, or wander loose in the garden in the warmer weather. Hes a bit temperamental when outside though, and usually tries to bite peoples feet. He is also spooked by washing on the line - I tried to get a vid of him "stalking" a pair of trousers on the whirly, but he stopped before I could get back :'(

They are great lizards, I would highly recommend them to anyone - though they take up a ridiculous amount of time and money when young, and space when adult!

Hes in an 8ft viv that dominates one wall of the "reptile room". I personally dont agree with 6x2 being the minimum size cage for these guys - I put him in an empty 6x2 once to see how it looked, and it was ridiculous. 6x3 may *just* be passable for a smaller adult, but I think anyone that goes for this size might be pushing it; tegus can become very irritable in smaller cages and spend a lot of time trying to escape. He has been a lot better since being moved into the 8ft cage!
