How far away is the basking area from the surface of the bulb?
Where is the probe to the stat?

The probe is OK in the cool end, it should be set at 85f. Try raising the basking area up, but not high enough that a beardie could touch the light.
Do you have a bulb guard?

How much is it being dimmed?

If you don't have enough ventilation in the cool end, the bulb may end up being dimmed too much, which would stop you from getting a good basking temperature.

What are you measuring the basking temperature with? Unless you are using an IR temperature gun, it won't be an accurate measurement of the basking surface temperature, only of the nearby air temperature.

In my 4x2 for my rankins I have 2 bulbs - they are both 60w. I am achieving basking temps of about 120-125 degrees (gunned) on my basking spot and it is approx 10 inches away from the bulbs. I don't use a dimmer stat on them though and my cool end ambient remains at approx 77.
