if you do your resarch and make sure you have a good understanding of how the vivarium and all within works before you get the lizard i think if you liek the look of chams...start researching chams [maybe yemen or panther chams] and see if you dont reckon you could manage it or not.

ALways best where possible to go for what you really want.

As long as you have the room, willingness to thoroughly research before buying and inclination to commit for the life of the animal then there are not many lizards unsuitable for a beginner.

I always wanted an Iguana, so I researched, planned for the future (ie made sure I had room for an adult sized iguana enclosure) and then bought one. I had him for 13 years, his whole life.

Like Dean suggests, maybe the place to start is find some you like the look of then research their needs, availability etc.

oh yeh, yourd liek soemthing handleable... well a beardie really is a good choice really.
Preference on human interaction [again beardies are good there] i think varies from animal to animal and may be just as much to do with the level of interaction you bring it up with/what its used to.

Green basiliscks and waterdragons arent bad, same with frilled dragons, all get larger than a beardie and need a larger viv as adults, all also are pretty good as far as handling goes, although that varies too but they are all good bets for a decent lizard to keep.

I have to agree, beardies are brilliant starter lizards.

We had no idea about lizards until we arranged to have Spike, but after some research, talking to petshops and joining this forum, hes become a member of the family.

Hes so rewarding too. He always seems to be smiling at me
