Default Help! Poorly dragon?

Hi.

I've just bought a new Water Dragon (my second) & introduced this 'eco earth' to the viv. It's the stuff made from coco humus that expands when you put it in water. I put it in last night only to find this morning that after Bogey has had a splash about & a play the stuff was everywhere. I'm worried as upon closer inspection this morning his eyes look sore with some discharge. I had to put my previous dragon Elvis down due to an unnamed viral infection which started withbthe eyes. Has anyone had a similar problem with Eco Earth?

Cheers, Andrew

i presume you have but did the tank have a thorough disinfection before you put the new wd in. ours are on the same substrate with no ill effect. i would just make sure the tank was cleaned thoroughly to prevent your new wd from getting what the last one had

Yea thought sbout that one. I'm keeping him in a viv previously occupied by my (escaped) corn snake. I thoroughly cleaned & rinsed it well & I've added entirely new decoration etc. Water is changed daily too. I dunno, maybe I'm just not meant to keep reptiles!

Copied from other thread.

Hi.
I have noticed when it dries out it becomes a bit flakey and little strains could get into a dragons eye.

I did have to pull a bit out of my boscs eye once when he had a pile that was kept quite dry.

When its wet i wouldnt have thought it would cause any problems but i defo think that it could irritate if it does get in there.[as i said, a dry, hair like strain can poke right into the eyeball, although still really unlikely]

Being dusty without actually getting into the eye could also cause sore eyes and disscharge as you mentioned, but again it really only appears dusty once its very dry and crumbles down over time.

Would definetely be best to remove it,

What do you usually use in a wd viv?
