It won't have been a leopard gecko if it was a native North Carolina lizard - Leos come from India, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Could have been one of the Coleonyx banded geckos though...

Was it a climber with wide, flat toe-tips, or did it have more normal 'lizard feet' and a thicker tail?

Well I know there is 6 reps here though ..

Yup on the isle of sheppy in kent... they live in the harbour walls, as they were introduced from the ships coming in from warmer climates and since the walls are pretty warm and moist they have stayed and bred.

The Euscorpius scorpions on Sheppey are pretty harmless unless you're unfortunate enough to have an allergy. In fact all those small 5cm long Euscorpius species around Europe are. It's the Buthus ones you have to watch out for in the Mediterranean area.

In my own garden I have found Bufo bufo and Rana temporaria, which was encouraging.

Re grass snakes, I wouldn't be tempted to keep them as they seem to like frogs in their diet. Not sure whether they also go for fish.
