Default to buy or not to buy

should i buy a cricket keeper? i am so confused everybody seems to have them. i did`nt think i needed one then this morning my hubby fed my dragon by opening the tub in the viv and twice as many crickets fell out as normal. i read somewhere the keepers keep the crickets in tubes and it stops this happening i am keping in the tubs they come in at the moment i was also thinking about making my own out of an icecream tub and some loo rolls you know the old blue peter bit.
what put me off to start with the man in the shop said you only have a keeper if you are going to breed the crickets, well, the rate my baby is going though them i might have to think about it

well, we've never used a cricket feeder, and we've had a beardis for nearly 2 years. we just chuck them into a faunarium that ive has for years. they cant jusp out of it and we just bought a lil fish net/scoop thing to catch them in.

hope that helps

you dont have to buy one just to breed it just makes it a little easier to feed as you just tap them from the tube straight into a bag with a little calcium dust shake and serve

I think theyre a waste of time. The crickets seem to die quicker and they stink.
At least in the tubs you cant smell them.

Thats just my opinion tho

If you dont plan on breeding them I personally wouldnt bother...you will just have to clean them out etc! I keep our crickets in the tubs they arrive in; they get fed in these and everything. If you shake up the tub to agitate the crickets, you should be able to open just one corner and then stick a small food bag underneath; they all tumble out and you can just close it when done. When there are a fewer crix left, just take out the egg tray and shake it into the viv. When youre done, dispose of the box (or give it to your local rep shop if you feel charitable). Sorted! I really dont have time for raising crickets; they smell too bad and are noisy, irritating things. The only thing I breed is roaches...wouldnt mind locusts, but that seems like too much hard work.

I bought one and am glad I did. So easy to use. I just shake the tubes into a marg' tub containing the dusting powder then take the groggy crix out with forceps. The dust and my violent shaking stuns them a bit so they don't run all over the place. I am going to breed my own though and bought some big tubs to do that in.I have to say that I like the noise. It reminds me of being abroad. I haven't noticed a smell either.

hi, i dont have one myself, have thought about it though. but to me it seems a bit silly, as you're still gonna have the problem of getting the crix from their tub to the feeder.

oersonally, i use a large see through bag, put the whole tub in with the powder, tie a loose knot in the bag. then i open the tub through the bag, let out x amount of crixre-seal box, lift to knot, tie another loose knot between tub and crix. then just undo the top knot take out the box and shake and serve.

its actually very simple, its harder to type and explain than it is to do lol.
i do it this way cause i dont like the bugs much, and it saves em jumping away while tryna tip em out the corner of the tub.

just my way
