At 5-6 weeks old, I'd say it would be a complete guess at the sex. So are they wanting to keep taking your babies then take them to the vets to get checked.. if it's male, bring it back again? Bit of an ordeal for a tiny baby!

You can sex them at that age, but it wont be accurate, ideally wait until they are 6 months, and you should ask if they are planning to breed, because if they are they need to wait until the female beardie is 18 months old and atleast/over 400 grams

i would still tell them to wait and see as they are a bit too young ....i would say wait at least 4 months thats the minum age to tell their sex ..j

Just called the vet they used no-one has been in today with a beardie dragon.

what do i do?

i just called them and explained that i need confirmation from avet as i dont like the baby being put through any big ordeals but i am just no comfortable with the fact the baby left our house into theres and for me to take it back would be risky i would house it seperate from others but not the point . they got very argumentative with me saying well give us a refund then but i am still taking that same risk

they lied about being at vets

what would you do ?

Some males you can be sure of at 4 weeks old - they are the "early-developing" ones, and the hemipenes are pretty obvious.

With females you can be pretty certain of a fair few of them from around 2-3 months or so - narrow vents, a single central bulge, no hemipenes even if you roll the tail, small pores etc. Whilst none of those are 100% conclusive at that age, you can be pretty confident that a dragon showing all of them will end up being a girl. It's never 100% though, which is why virtually no breeders will guarantee sexes.

Unless the vet has done chromosomal sexing (and the odds are probably higher of winning the lottery), they can't be 100% certain of the sex, but they may have a very informed guess if it's an early-developing male.
