Default boscs

i'm pretty sure this has been posted 100 times before but ill ask so i know for certain, out of the people who have a bosc that will allow people, or at least their owners, to handle them which style worked best for you, letting them come to you in their own time, or a slightly more forceful 'show them who's boss' style of holding on to them until they stop wriggling? or any other method that may work, also who is the crazy woman who trains her boscs by drowning them?!? any input would be great
cheers

i know you said for people who own them, well i dont, but ive researched, and if you grab them, like 'show them whos boss' way then they will think your a predator and scratch at you like mad, best to let them come to you

Whe I first got my Bosc I tried the forcefull way of trying to handle and that didn;t work all to great. I then decided to take all the hides out for an hour during the day and let it get used to seeing me. Let it see my hand all the time when sorting out food, cleaning out the poop and so on in the enclosure. Also using one of your old tops in the enclosure helps with the bosc wanting to come to you in their own time as they will get your sentand think "oh security" kinda thing.

I third that! I terrorized mine initially for the first couple months and all it did was stress Sav and stress me too. And I was told by seasoned monitor keepers that the stress can in fact kill them sometimes so I let him be and found he calmed down a lot especially as he got older. I can't handle mine all the time, but to be honest, I don't really want to. But he will (or would) mostly let me pick him up if I needed to.

Here he is It was just after I had fed him some mealies - it's a kinda bonding thing for us - I put them in and help him to dig up the ones that get away! Would mention, Martin, his diet seems to be going well

its all about getting them to trust you if they see you every day cleaning there viv and feeding them they soon learn that your not going to hurt them so they will allow you to pick them up the only time i handled when mine was a baby was to clean the viv compleatly other than that i never pushed handleing it just causes stress on them and they will always be abit funny about comeing out the viv

I would definately agree with the whole letting them getting to know you and gaining there trust mine was a real pain when i first got him trying to bite and scratch me that was in february and now he's almost as tame as i reckon he will ever be i will post a video soon that took me about 4 months and i trust him completely and he trusts me. Best thing i could ever say is just take your time and have patience. oh and don't be intimidated he's not gunna kill you!!! whats the worst that could happen a bad cut a dog could do far worse.hope all goes well mate

LMAO!! So long as you meant "tongs" and not "tongues" Yes - I feed mine his quail/rodents using tongs - the insects I just throw in and let him hunt down.
