Unhappy Sick male Beardie

Hi, I Have noticed over the last few days that my male beardie has become very dark in colour, does not seem as fat as normal, is very sleepy during day light hours and has lost his apetite.

I have recently put him in with a female of the same age, they have been together for over a month now. I had them in together when I bought them as babies in March when they were only 4 months old. I had to seperate them though as the male was dominating the female and kept biting her tail and legs. It now seems like the female is the dominant one and she has now out grown him.

Does anyone think the males condition could be brought on due to the females dominance or are the symptoms pointing to some kind of disease or virus.

I am new to keeping lizards and would appreciate any views or comments anyone has that could help.

Thanks Bones

they shouldnt be breeding at that age, it can cause some really big issues, including death, ide sugest seperating right away. and if the 'female' is dominating the 'male' i think you MAY need to check what sex they are going dark and going off food are signs hes coming up to shedding his skin

going dark and off food is also a sign of stress.. I would suggest you seperate again and check that you do have a male and female..

If after you have seperated them given him time to settle back down to being on his own and he is still doing the same then I would take him to the vet to get him checked out.

Smile Thanks

Hi Luke & Liz,

Thanks for the advise I will seperate them immediately and see if he gets any better.

I definitely have a male and female and know the difference as they were sexed when bought and I have seen the female wave on many accasions. Perhaps I should get a second opinion though just in case...LOL

Thanks Again
Bones

well at 4 months old they couldnt be sexed accurately, it would have been guessing TBH. post pics up of above their vent and we could have a go at sexing for you.
