By the way I take it that the locusts that died didnt die from me feeding them carrots then? since you guys have tried it too. Im keeping him on locusts as hes staple although its hard getting hold of the right sizes, its very hard to get the small ones. I want to try the mealies though for extras now that i found out they can be gutloaded with variety

hoppers I feed on lettuce or anything green, they also love strawberries. Mealworms I dispise. That's my personal preference though, and lots of breeders/owners use mealworms as a staple, it's just about your preference. Mealworms do demolish anything you put in there and it is shown that those fed mainly on well gutloaded mealworms do have a faster growing rate. But there is no harm are negative effects of using crickets or hoppers as a staple, other than they don't grow as quick.

And no, the hoppers wouldn't have died from eating carrot.

Can food contain lots of fat and not much nutrition.

The caterpillars are supposed to be fed sparingly like wax worms and over feeding them to your leo will cause laxative effects.

Many experienced breeders use mealworms with no problems and I've never actually heard anyone say that a mealworm has eaten through a leo's stomach, it is just a wives tale.

Locusts are fine as a staple, my leo's love them, as does my beardie.

I know you can feed beardies dubia roaches, not sure about leo's eating them. Can anyone answer this for me as I have recently ordered some for my beardie but I have no idea if they are OK for the leo's.

Mealworms eating their way out of a Leo's belly is just a myth, its not actually true. My little baby has started eating mini-mealies now and loves them - she eats 4-5 at a time, several times a day at the moment, and she is so healthy with strong legs and a tail that is fattening nicely.

all my hatchlings and leo's are fed on mealies along with crix and hoppers and I've not had any probs with mealies and going by the amount of poop I clear out each day they don't cause impaction either
Neither do mealies don't eat their way out of tummies
