Exclamation Heating for beardie.

Hi i'm abit concerned about the heating in my beardies viv he is in a 36x24x23 viv through the day the hot side is 24 c and on a night time it drops to 17 c

The cool side through the day is 22 c

I'm using a 24" uv repti glo 10.0 and a 75w sunglo for the basking area

Is this right or do i need to heat the viv more and if so how do i do it as i read that beardies dont need heat mats.

i have a 75w heat glo bulb would this be ok to use on a night and leave it on?

Cheers

Chapaz

Is your heater on a dimmer thermostat?

EDIT: Sorry I just realised you said that the hot side is only 24c (75f). The basking spot is supposed to be around 40c (105f) so you really need to adjust the temps ASAP. Do you have a spot bulb or ceramic heater?

If the temperature isnt getting high enough then you should use a higher wattage of bulb, the temperature should be at least 95f in the warm side (around 35c i think, i dont really work in celsius).

I quoted this from Bearded dragon care sheet

"To give off enough heat for proper digestion basking spots should be made. One basking spot will be fine; however, two basking spots are better (IMO). These basking spots should be 105-110F for babies and juvies, however, once the adult stage is reached the temps should go down to 95-105F. A regular house hold light will be fine, its better then buying one from the pet store, so I would recommend this. The cool side of the cage should be 80-88F during the day. Night temperatures should not go lower then 65F, if the temps go any lower, you should use a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) to get the temps higher. I would not suggest using a UTH (under tank heater), bearded dragons do not feel heat from under their bodies, so they can actually get burned from the heater. Also never use any heat rock, as mentioned above, they sense heat with a “third eye” located on top of their heads. Be sure to keep a thermometer on each the cool side, and hot side for both temperatures.

Use a temp gun, or a digital thermometer for accurate temp usage. Stickthermometers aren’t accurate at all, so be sure to get one of those. Adigital thermo can be purchased at Walmart or another comparable store.A temp gun can be purchased online or maybe at a pet store."

basing temp minimum of 105F, maximum of 115F, your basking temp is lower than what the cool end should be! do you even have a bulb?

I think they do, as they said:

Cheers

I have changed the bulb over for the basking spot and is now getting to 100 f i am going to fit the sun glo bulb just beside it to give the warm end more heat as the ambient temp isnt quite at 35 c.

OK, make sure you get a thermostat ASAP too!! Just to be safe and not have to worry about the bulb getting too hot...here is a link to the dimmer stat that you need
