Default Beardies on sand

I know there's alot of debate about this on some forums, i've heard tales of impaction and stories of keeping them on the stuff for years with no problems.
I hand feed all insect food, and the veg plate is big enough for them to stand in whilst they eat, would they be okay to go onto sand?
I just find it more pleasing to the eye than newspaper.
If so, does it have to be calci-sand, or can you use playsand providing it's new and clean?
Any input would be appreciated,
thanks.

i use sad and dont handfeed, i just put the ocusts in, as they are adults they are accurate hunters and dont take in sand. play sand is ok, calci sand should NEVER i repeat NEVER be used. if your beardie is over 1 year old, then play sand SHOULD, SHOULD be fine, but there is the odd case (1 in 1000) that it may get impacted.

Calci sand is a big no no. How old is your beardie? If you're worried about impaction you could use tiles.

i looked after a beardie for some one, and they kept him on bog standard play sand, i bought a bag for him whilst at b&q one day as it was cheap, and all i did was to bake it in the oven on gas mark 9 for 30 minutes, allowed it to cool and sifted the large stones out of it, never had any problems with the beardie or the sand.

i agree newspaper looks tacky but why use sand when it's gonna cost you every time you clean out your dragon and there is also the impaction risk, you can get some really nice looking tiles and only have to pay out once and there is no risk at all i dont wanna be one of the never use sand preachers but it really is a waste of money ,messy, and even dangerouse thing to use
