Default Concerned about my Leos behavior

HI all,

I've had my eight month leo for about 6 months now and until now, everything was fine. It ate lots of mealworms or crickets which I fed nearly everyday, got nutrabal every few days and shed it's skin ok.
Now about a couple of weeks ago, it seemed to have lost interest in food. It's just ignoring crickets and mealworms even when I wave it in front of it. It's only eaten two or three crickets over the last fortnight. The other thing it is doing is that it now seems every keen to leave the viv. It's looking up a lot of the time to see places to climb and whenever I open the door, it seems eager to come out.

I do let it out and allow it to climb over me. Maybe it's taken a liking to it. My main concern is the eating. Its tail is still fat so I'm not too worried yet but it used to eat everyday and this change has confused me a bit.

I was wondering if this is a phase they all go through. Maybe it's reached adulthood and now doesn't eat as much as before?

Thanks

My leos used to go through stages of eating very little then they would be fine but i'm no expert so I would confirm that with one of the forums leo experts

Good luck

sound potentially like stress to me. scrabbling at the glass and wanting to come are often signs of this.

have a look at your temps and your care. see if there is anything that could be affecting him.

ok 1st

temps should be -88-90 on hot side
80-85 on cool

substrate- paper towel anything solid not sand or bark

humidity -spray his hide often change water

calcium- dust crickets

poo-check its solid brown/blacky with white urate runny stools indicate a problem

eyes/nose -check the nose and eyes are clear from discharge and eyes should appear bright

tummy-should be fairly soft

check his cage see if anything could be bovvering him

if he wants to come out get him out ....... how big is his tank? he may need a bigger one

is he alert still?

tail should still be fat and you shouldnt be able to see any bones also vent should be clear and no feces on it..

basicly check everything give it another couple of days and if he still doesnt eat or shows any signs of illness take him t a specialist keep us updated.

Is your gecko male?

I know that around this time of year, my males decide they're not interested in food and want to come out and 'play' with the girls. I have one male who pretty much won't eat from first of February to middle of March.

I never considered its sex. The breeder I bought it from said it was female but I've never tried to sex it to check. I'll try and have a look tonight.

The viv is 45cmx45cmx45cm (Exo Terra), the floor is covered in kitchen roll and the moist hide has vermicullite as bedding. There is a small chance that he may have swallowed a piece but I think they go straight through?

Just thought I'll give an update. My leo is eating again althougth it's appetite isn't as big as it used to be. I'm pretty sure it's female as I don't see any visible V shaped markings between it's hind legs. It has also seemed to have calmed down as it's not trying to get out again. The only thing I've really changed is the bedding in the moist hide which I've changed from vermiculite to a compost vermiculite mix. I've also cleaned the viv out since but I do that every week anyway.

Thanks to all your suggestions and hints though.
