Default Odd cwd behaviour

My male and female live together, they get on fine in the viv. Cuddle up together most nights bless em. But lately when they come out for a run around together they fight. They puff their throats and seem to head butt each other lol. As far as i can tell they're not biting. It's not constant fighting, if one runs away the other doesn't follow. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

its not odd as such... but it isnt good either and is common specifically with a mel/ female ratio

a single female is never a good plan for a male.. 1.2 is much better but to be fair a HUGE tank is then required

what age are they,,,

not all males and females wil get along.. and even some who do overnight that can change,,

have they mated yet and are they old enough to mate..

you dont want them mating too young.. i rewcued a female this year who had been bred from since she was very very young and she now has hip displacia and other issues regarding this.

If it continues they may become stressed and unfortunately as we al know as lizard keepers stress can cause non-eating and lead to other physical ailments

you may want to think about splitting for the sake of their wellbeing , stress levels and health if it continues..

We've already split them once so i have a complete spare set up. This was because the female bullied the male. A few weeks ago we put them back together to see how they were together and they were perfectly fine. I only say it's odd because when they're in the viv they're perfectly fine, no fighting at all. As i said they cuddle up, it's just when they come out. So i was wondering if it's a territory thing? They rarely come out together. My female is about 20 months and is 23 inches total, the male is about 16 months and 6 1/2 inches snout to vent. Too young to breed i know but as soon as they show any signs of doing it they are going to be seperated. Even when they are old enough we intend to seperate them in case the female gets hassled

the problem is this though

showing signs of breeding you may only see when its too late and the females gravid.. its impossible to watch them 24/7

If the females the stronger one out the 2 the male may also find he cant hold her down for breeding and ive seen badly damaged hemipenes from young lizards mating with older stronger females..

Id consider splitting for now to be on the safe side..

reptile behaviour is not always easily understood and it could be so many reasons.. its posible you wont ever know why and therefore it may be hard to remedy

but i would be most concerned about breeding early and it causing possible issues for either of them
