Handle it alot. Make sure it has settled down before putting it away. Make sure you are gentle and calm.

Just be brave mate. He will soon learn that if he squirms and bites that means he will be left alone the more he will do it.

i think most bosc owners would strongly disagree with the advice given. personally i'd leave it well alone and let it come to you in it's own time, and yes it takes time but well worth having a happpy confident monitor than a scared one. babies are naturally scared anyway because of there size so handling it till it stops wriggling is just goina make it worst.

I don't fully agree with "let it come to you in its own time" that is the long term idea but on the short term I do think its the keepers place to make the first effort.
Put your hand in the viv, if he runs away leave him till later ,if he threatens hold your ground a few seconds then back away, keep talking to him all the time gently.
try again the next day or if he wasnt upset about it long maybe later that day, if for instance he took it badly and hid for a hole day afterwards then maybe give it 2-3 days break.
Once you can get your hand in without a problem you want to try to touch him/stroke him.
and go from there, backing off if he gets uncomfy but then over time always pushing it a little further and makin an extra effort over time.
Once you are able to puck it up, if it squirms for the first second or two its ok, tell him hes alright but if he continues put him back and wait a bit before trying again.
They generally will squirm when you first get them as they arent really in favour of it but soon stop, and then start again when they have had enough which is why its then time to put him back.

We didnt really get anywhere with our savvy for the first 3 weeks... Not because we didnt try or didnt wana start yet BUT because he hid everytime he spotted you looking at him.
Food is one of the best ways to start earning his trust too.

See now i dont keep boscs so i dont know but if i had one i would try to allow it to trust me - for example i would make sure i put my hand in the viv at a regular basis so it knows that my hand does not mean danger.

I would also try to get my hand closer and closer to the bosc from day to day, this way you can gradually build it up. If he hisses or opens its mouth just try to keep your hand there and stay calm, then i would next to stroke the bosc, then if this was working i would go on to trying to pick it up etc.

This is the way i personally would attempt but like i said i dont know because i have never had a bosc for a pet!
