Default Another Bad Pet Shop

Sand...
No thermometer for temps or mat stat

One viv: 2/3 skinks, 1 leo, 2 crocodile geckos

sold a woman a snake...a young snake (bout 15-20cm), supplied her with a mesh top faunarium and said she didnt need a thermometer as it stayed at a constant heat/temperature.

I'm getting quite angry now...

just dont go to petshops, i only go if im desperate for something and it would take too long to order online.

basically 99% of petshops are bad, there are some good ones like petzoo out there but just dont go if its just gonna upset you. you cant do anything, they dont care and from the sounds of it neither do any propper agencies. even my loca petshop keeps babies on wood shavings but you just have to accept, petshops normaly dont know what their on about.

Don't know what the obsession with labelling people as bad if they use sand is myself, I think that's a personal preference and does not mean you are a bad shop/keeper.... but the rest sounds pretty unfortunate. I've heard a lot worse though!

Petshops arent always bad. The one I go to is really good (chrysalis Pets in buckley) and the staff are friendly.

He's one of them! Pitch forks out people!

I think when it comes down to substrates its not necessarily people being irresponsible, its probably more down to people basing their setups etc on their own experience instead of someone elses. New keepers should def play it safe though imo and maybe petshops should set a better example by doing this also.

My petshop keeps anything and everything on woodchips but i find it more distressing to see reps crammed together or in tiny vivs without proper heating/lighting/food/shelter etc.

I use sand with my beardie, and I dont see a problem with it, it was clean and dry before I used it, and its easy to clean out

the only thing I dont do is feed her live crickets or anything in there to help stop impaction, and the veg is always in a deep container so she dont put it everywhere, and so far, after nearly a year on it (She is adult) I have never had any issues

she loves it as it gives her some places to dog for the fun of it, and loves throwing it around the tank....which is better than her banging on the glass all day!
