Default New Beardie - Is This Normal ???

Hi Everyone ..... I am new to this forum so any help would be appreciated ... I bought my first beardie yesterday and he seems quite happy basking away however he has not eaten anything yet ??! He was munching away on BIG hoppers in his viv before I bought him however he doesnt seem to want to know about the crickets and greens now he is home ... is this normal ? Does he need time to settle in before he gets his appetite back ? He did a huge poop this morning so I am sure he has room in his little belly !! He is 2 months old
I have put about 10 crickets in his viv , half of them dusted and half plain and he has a small bowl of spinnach.
I tried feeding from the tongs but he didnt want to know
Do I persist with crickets or shall I try some hoppers like he was eating in the shop .... they seemed massive as I read they should only be as big as the distance between his eyes ?

Any body put my mind at rest ??

Thankyou

Andrew

Yes they are only meant to be as big as the distance between their eyes. Maybe yours doesn't like crickets (none of my lizards do) - they're spoiled brats and only accept locusts or worms.

Alot of beardies need a few days to settle. Also, a lot will go off crickets if they've been fed locusts as a staple diet.
Hope this helps a bit,
Ben

they need to settle even my house move made mine go off food for a few days!! they dont eat crix every day n e way (well mine certainly dont) dont put in too many and maybe put them in the fridge for 5 mins or so before feeding it slows them down and maybe it would be easier to start with! try meal worms! mine love them!
and dont panic just be patient for the first few days!!
good luck hunni

Thanks for the replies

I was going to go and get some hoppers this morning , do you think thats wise or do you think that is just creating a rod for my own back ? Shall I persist with the crickets ?

If it's not going to take the crickets then it's not giong to take the crickets-you're probably best with going and getting some hoppers

most reps need some time to settle down before they feel happy to eat!

Give him chance to settle in to his new environment, he will eat when he is ready.
By the way i would not recommend giving him spinach, it is high in oxalates which are harmful to the dragon.

Ok I will give him a few days to settle down .... thanks for the tip on spinnach .. I have taken it out and replaced it with romaine lettuce .... Am I right in thinking he will eat when he is hungry .... he wont be stubborn and starve himself will he ? (Silly question I know but I do worry !!)

Thankyou all for your advice by the way
