Unhappy Help Sick Leopard Gecko

HELP, recently (about a month ago) a bought my first 2 leopard geckos. I am unsure of an exact age but i knew that they were very young, about 3 months. At first i had them both in the same vivarium and they seemed happy enough. But in after about a week i noticed that one of my leo's was getting somehwta skinny. So just incase i separated her from her roomate (other leo). Thats when i really noticed she was sick, in the next few weeks she got worse and worse. Now she is horribly skinny and refuses to eat anything, the crix are very small and i have the proper heating but she still refuses to eat. I am completely out of ideas and my friend who owns leo's thinks she is going to die really soon. There isn;t a vet anywhere near where i live like over 3 hours at least if not farther to find one. SO PLEASEE HELP!!

Seth

Sounds urgent all i know

What are the temps in your viv? what does her poo look like does it have worms in? is she been sick..im guessing shes got INTERNAL PARASITES..what calcium are you using ..

If you cant get to a vvet She WILL die parasites suck out all the nutrionts thats why she has lost weight so quickly

make her up a slurry... mash the crix up or get soome wax worm crush um up with sum calcium and water and put it in her mouth with a little syringe

you HAVE to get her too a vet!"

Best of luck!

Mushed up meaty babyfood, with calcium and vits is good too!

If you can't get her to a vet immediately, ring them and ask for help and advice to tide you over. Although its a long way to get there, its worth every mile if it gets her well.

Good luck, rooting for you all.

Thanks for the info, i tried the syringe/ slurry idea but i'm not really sure how to get her to even try it i put it near hear mouth and even put some on her lips but she rubs it off on the hand i am using to hold her.Could someone try to explain to me a method of getting her to eat it. I would tell you the calcium but i think it would be pointless since i think she hasn;t ate since i got her. But just incase it is Rep-Cal herptivate. What i don;t understand is this, i put small crix and wax worms in her aquarium and everyday i check and it is alwyays the same amount yet somehow she still goes poo? Anyways i don;t think it is parasites cause her poop seems healthy (no worms in it).

Thanks Seth

She might not have worms, Seth - she could have a bacterial infection.

You really do need to get a poo sample to a vet to be tested and see if she does have anything to worry about.

Does her belly look skinny, or does it look fat? Does she have any dark markings on her stomach?

To get her to eat some of the slurry, you'll need to open her mouth gently with something rounded and blunt, then put a dab of the slurry into her mouth.

Here's a tip from my gecko book if it helps:

"Because geckos often resist and luck up their jaws when one tries to open them, an easy method is to pull down the fleshy edge of the mouth and administer a small amount of liquid/ food along the open edge. Geckos will usually end up licking, and once they do additional food can be dripped in at the tip of the mouth"

If you can get hold of one, a small syringe can be useful for this (have a word with a local vet, explain the problem and they may let you have one) - no needle, obviously! Otherwise try the end of a cocktail stick (but file the end to remove the sharp point)

Hope this helps

Thanks once again this has been a ton of help. Her belly is really skiny compared to my other leo and her tail is seriously as skinny as like a piece of string. On her belly there is these very dark black spots/areas.

Thanks Seth

Take a look at my recent posts about my sick leo, turned out it was nothing that anyone thought of!

Not very nice though, but after readin up about the parasite itself, it can cause the animal not to eat, and loose weight, become sick, and other issues, but its easily treated

were they/are they kept on sand?

this could just as easily be impaction as an illness..

Thanks once again, i am doing the slurry method again tongiht, last time it didn't really go so good (the leo still refuses to open its mouth or even lick it). The substrate is a very fine sand that i bought directly from a pet store that is intended for lizards so probably not impaction.

Thanks Seth
