i think theyve mistaken untameable with difficult to tame..ive only got 1 lizard - a bosc, & i wouldnt say he was tame, far from it lol..but hes getting there with a lot of persistance & gentle handling..at the end of the day theyre an animal with instincts arent they..to call them horrible is a bit ignorant really IMO, it shows that these people can only appreciate the qualities of the animals that humans drill into them (if u get what i mean?), what im saying is even an untame monitor IMO is an interesting animal to observe, if they want a lizard to behave like a dog then why dont they go and buy a bloody dog lol..went a bit off topic there but hey ho lol

Personally i think it all goes on your definitition of tame...mine are not tame by the same standards as other peoples but they are enough that i can handle them if need be. Thats all i need. Monitors are meant to be somewhat aggressive it is in their nature. I think that taming them down to the point where they are completely placid is actually detrimental to their physiology. A feisty bosc is a healthy bosc in my opinion..

Its the same as most reptiles if you get them young and handle them most of the time they will tame. my bosc when I got him he was a bit of a handfull but now he will sit on your lap and watch t.v with you if you scrach hes back. its all trust at the end of the day

had several boscs over the years....

biggest one was just over four foot and tame as a lapdog...and lovely with it...used to actively seek interaction when he was running around.

also had a 2 foot one who was psycho...even after a year of trying...didnt give up trying but didnt get anywhere... complete nutter.

got another couple as babies...one tamed very quickly and one just didnt...though when it got to about 19 inches it calmed right down.

Think they are a bit like people...some are ok and some are just plain nuts.

I have only ever seen one, he was 4 foot+ and he was in a very alien environment, at an ERAC club meeting, with lots of people about. He was as good as gold, not wanting to get bitten I did ask his owner first, but was assurd he was fine. He let everybody stroke him and closed his eyes with obvious pleasure when stroked on the head.
