no he's not to young, but make sure he's big enough to breed, the females too. the recomended weight for breeding is at least 50g.
as for introducing, well when i got my first male, i put him in with 5 females (after quarenteen of corse) i completly cleaned out the viv, and slightly rearanged it so to the female, its was a diff viv. then i put them all in. that way they dont feel like their teratory is being invaded. after that i left them to it and kept a very close eye on them. and they did live happily, for a while. eventually i decided to take him out and put him on his own as he stresses the gravid females to much, and the last straw was when one of the females he was hasseling took a chunk outta his nose. poor bugger. so a couple of months ago this happend and i took him straight out (he's still sulking! lol) so you just have to remember to keep an eye on them, always, some will be fine, but some wont. |

In short once a male reachs about 30grams he is capable of doing the 'biz' ao to speak, have the girls ever been bred before? this is more of a worry to me as I lost an older female who'd not been mated before as she got dystocia (egg bound) due to never laying before.
Age isn't a problem at all if it was mixing a female that had always been alone with another gecko then you might have issues as they get set in their ways. If you did mix them now it might be a good thing as they seem to me to be calmer this time of year in the breeding season females can get a little annoyed at new viv mates. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't only way to know is put him in and keep a good eye on them for at least a month, it also helps to weigh everyone before you add newbies in then weigh again a few weeks later, you can tell then if any of them are stressed and losing weight ![]()

Cheers everybody. Ok none of my leos have ever been bred before. I understand they will be needing more calcium than usual too, ready for good egg production. One of my females is a little under 50g, what ways are there to 'fatten' her up more? She eats crickets fine but would say giving her a pinky mouse or something help?

well you could try, a good source of calcium, but you will find that most leos wont eat it as they only attracted to food thats moving. waxworms are very fatty, however be careful, as they are also highly addictive, if you feed to many to often, then they may get addicted but are good to give as a treat. prob no more than 2 - 3 each per week max
Mealworms can make leos put weight on too, i've found all mine since they been on mealworms have been a healthier size, and seem so much better for it. i just leave a dish of mealies in their vivs at all times for them (and those who will still eat em still get crix ever two days) and waxies as treats every now and then. also, once you introduced them, keep an aya on them always, mine where fine together for the first 6 months before it all kicked off. |

OK thats great thanks. I will go and buy a box of Waxies now and give them all a couple. Im thinking of building a viv extension similar to a new viv, with a roof opening and will slot up to the opened glass doors of the ladies viv. This would add about 3 square feet of space onto the viv and then im sure my male would be more happy with them. Thanks for all the help, and I will keep posted on their progress together.
