Default Thermometers

Would this item do for monitoring temperatures on either side of the tank for a milk snake ?

Maplin > Aquarium Thermometer

Just concerned as i dont trust the built in therm with th exo-terra viv !

any help appreciated, would it be better to use a red bulb rather than the white as he is quite shy at the moment !

Another one (sorry), would it be best to use a dimmer controlled thermostat for the lighting to control temps at night, can anyone recommend a brand or a store to purchase them at !

Thanks Guys and Gals !

I guess it would do the trick. I use these:

Amazon.co.uk: IN/OUTDOOR THERMOMETER: DIY & Tools

Has the benefit of monitoring the warm and cool ends at same time, does F and C, and has max / min temperature alarms as well. Bargain. Works well with my mat stat for a corn and new cali king.

Supplier was quick in delivering (next day arrival).

Thanks for this, how does it monitor both ends of the tank, do you need two or does it have a probe of some description ?

either of the thermometers linked to will monitor both ends, it's just that with yours you'll need to press the 'in/out' button to change which of the temps is displayed, but the one Mancunian posted shows both temps all the time (these are good, i use them and have posted that link myself a few times!)

both will have a wire coming from them with a probe on the end which you should stick in the other end of the viv to the main unit. unit is 'in' temp, probe is 'out'.

a dimmer stat is best to control light-emitting heat sources, as this stops the on/off disco effect and should also prolong the life of the bulb. however, i'd not use a light as my only heat source as it's better for the snake to have a light/dark cycle rather than 24 hours of light!

Obtained a aquarium mercury thermometer and the temps seem to be 84degrees farhenheit in the warm end and 76 in the cool end, is this okay ?

Guy in the store recommended between 80 and 86 fahrenheit for the warm end ?

It is a pueblan milk snake ...
