Default Beardie

right getting a beardie either today or tomorrow
was persuaded to get it over a cham by you guys

depending on time of getting to my local exotic pet shop could get it this afternoon

few questions as everyone contradicts each other, im going to buy 4 tubs or crickets and 1 of locusts i think as there feeding on crickets in the shop but gonna get locusts to try and coax it out of the dreaded starving week alot of peeps experience with babies!

how many crickets should a baby eat a day? im guessing there prob about 12 weeks old

also my temps are now good but what times should they be on for? mine are currently set at 7 - 7 but what do you suggest

cheers guys

Default Beardie

i would say bout 6 each is a good feed at that age as for the locusts well they prob wouldn manage them as well as that but they may have 1 or 2 if your lucky...its really pot luck...as long as they eat something then they will be fine..as they grow it will increase...my lights are set that at 7am my uv comes on and at 8pm it goes off...they need 13 hours of that 7.15 on for heat bulb 7.30 off

It all depends on the size of the livefood...

Phoenix (one of my new Fire and Ice babies) is around 12 weeks old, and she can get through over 50 crickets in a day. Millie (my other one) is around 10 weeks old and has a similar (but ever so slightly smaller) appetite. If you are feeding the correct-sized crickets / locusts, it could be similar to that.

If you are feeding correctly-sized locusts, the beardie will eat as many as it would if you were feeding correctly-sized crickets, as they would be the same size. Most people don't feed correctly-sized locusts though...

For the lighting, as summer approaches, you want to be increasing daylight hours to 13-14 for them. Possibly try 7-8 or 7.30-9 for them...

Default baby beardies

our babies ate like pigs if it moved they it crickets locust meal worms greens they just ate like there was no tomorrow. I agree with hades 12 - 14 hours in the summer time and drop it down in the winter. I would also suggest buying a good book called the bearded dragon manual that cover everything. also for temp can't beat a good dimming stat to control the temp.

Well i feed all my dragons 3 times a day and as much as they can eat in a 15 min period or so, like hades said making sure the crickets are the right size for them, i usually give locusts, waxworms and sliks as a treat for them, and they have their salad and fruit to munch on throughout the day. Also the lighting which hades said is want you want to be doing

Well you havnt seen mine
Usually mine eat for 5mins straight then have a 2min break then eat for the remaining time, and most of them usually do. I always allow 15mins so that i know there full, you always no when they have had enough because they just lose interest and walk away ( i also dont feed them in their tank), but then again mine are big fat beardies
