Default Heat mat

Hey all, ive started my el salvador boa project. My 24,15,18 wood viv came today, what size heat mat would you suggest for this size viv? and also, how do you guys position your mats inside your wood vivs? Ive heard of covering the mat to prevent burning, what should i use material wise?

thanks all!

Get one that covers a third to half the bottom of the tank, so maybe a 15*12 one.

I personally put them on the outside of wooden vivs, and the viv gets hot enough, and I have had not trouble. Make sure you use a stat though

Hi, i'll look into buying around that size then, do most people still have the heat mat outside their wood viv? i thought the mat would be working twice as hard with the distance between the wood and stat probe?

I think as ash has said that putting the mat under the viv is the best idea. It makes it a little safer as there is no animal urine or anything getting near electrical equipment. It may work a bit harder but you can offset this against cleaning etc ...
