Default Feeding and regularity for a 7/8 month old corn

She's getting quite big now, I got her onto fuzzies no problem, but I started giving her them less often because they were taking a while to 'pass through' and I didn't feel right just keeping on feeding her when the last one was still in the system!

One time I got a bit worried ( had been like 10 days) and had her out way longer than usual and managed to encourage her natural digestive processes to finish! So I figured it wasn't impaction or anything.

I'm feeding her two fuzzies tonight, even though I fed her one 6 days ago and still no mess in the tank. She doesn't look at all bloated near her tail end. She has plenty of water and although I've hardly seen her drink (not as much as my last snake) I have seen her do it. She's generally very active, though calm once you have her out, and likes watching what's going on outside her tank.

Is there anything to be concerned about here, am I feeding her enough?

Thanks in advance.

Don't worry - they don't poo very often! Lol.

At that age, I would feed one appropriately sized mouse or preferrably rat every 5-6 days - appropriately sized means approx the thickness of the snake or 1 1/2 times thickness max - enough to see a lump. Then when they get a bit bigger and start taking larger pray every 7-10 days.

Do you know what she weighs?

By the way, I was wrong in my ageing, it was 7/8 months since I bought her! She hatched late May last year, so 11 months.

No idea how much she weighs, but she's not showing any signs of being underweight (she has a fairly flat/very slightly rounded belly, she feels strong in my grip, can feel all her muscles).

But I do have a set of scales now so maybe in a couple of days I'll try and make her sit still long enough to get a weight!

I had a bigger corn before but I eventually sold it due to lack of room/time. She crapped amazingly regular, always 2 or 3 days after eating! Like clockwork lol.

That's why I was a bit worried with this one. Cheers for advice.

Are you going to have enough room/time for this one when it grows up? And stick to mice, corns dont need rats, they tend to put on too much weight because of the higher fat content. If she is over 6 months old, feeding should now be once a week. One food item no more than 1 1/2 times the width of the snake. Its better to grow on slowly rather than try to push on with larger or more items before the snake is ready. Any pics?

Oh, it's not because I couldn't handle one snake at a time! It's cause I took on the second one and then suddenly my situation changed and I had to make a sacrifice. My current one is a snow corn, and since I've had her from tiny she's a lot more 'friendly'. The other one was a normal motley, and although not in the least aggressive was trickier to handle sometimes (she constantly tried to make a getaway!). I got her from a petshop and was between 1-2 years, they told me anyway.

Although I've posted int he newbie forum it's not like I'm not very well read up on aspects of snake care. I am aware of the width limit, the pros and cons of different food types, etc. But I'm not afraid to ask questions and it didn't say anywhere in my books how often they crapped!

I did read about 'power feeding' though and how it produces a malformed snake, hence I thought maybe I was giving her too much considering how slowly they were going through.

I do have some pics, I'll post up tomorrow or day after when her feed has gone down a bit.

Thanks as always to people who take the time to help out others. x

With a corn of this age as long as it is not underweight or unwell i would suggest feeding every 7-10 days, i also tend to feed mine at a diff time and day each time, routine can be beneficial but i find feeding to a strict routine can cause probs such as stressing if you do not or cannot feed on the same day at time.
Hope this helps, also dont worry too much 10days isnt a massive amount of time with these snakes, theyre robust.

When I posted the other night, I swear I read it was a 7/8 month old Royal not a corn - I really should cut down on my alcohol intake....!

Forget what I said about feeding rats and listen to the corn people instead. Lol.

Oh and I think corns go to the toilet more frequently than Royals.
