Default questions about new setup

hi i just bought my first setup when i buy my geckos.
my new viv is 26in by 18in, i got the heat mat also, now does the mat have to go under neith the viv or inside ?

plus i asked the guy in the shop if i needed a thermostat and he said no.
he said i will just need the mat and a small light cos the viv is quite dark.

thanks for an help

inside or outside its personal choice really, just as long as the viv gets to the right heat. If its inside make sure the gecko(s) can't sit directly on it.

you will need a thermostat unless the bloke at the shop is planning on sitting there constantly making sure the temps don't get too high..

hi it is ok inside or outside the only problem with it being inside is that they might get burnt but if your not using newspaper i e thin substrate this should'nt be a problem. you will need a thermostat because without one the temperature will fluctuate a lot and could cause the viv to get too hot or too cold. hope this helps. i thought i needed a thermo, dont no what he was talkin about. think he had been smokin all the moss behind the counter.

he recommended repi sand but i have red alot of mixed feelings about this stuff ( i would be geting adult geckos most prob )

if the viv gets to warm how do i control the temp of the heat mat?

That's why you need a thermostat mate. You plug the heat mat into the thermostat, set the thermostat to the required temperature, pop the probe into the viv and off you go.
