Default HELP!!!!! beardie feeding (lack of)

Also posted in Lizard section as I didn't know which was most apropiate
Help !! ...... we are looking after Georgie our friends 8 month (I think) old bearded dragon while they are away on holiday. For the first few days he ate his regulation 5 crickets in the morning and the same in the evening. However he didn't eat any yesterday at all. He just dosn't seem interested in them and just prefers to explore our lounge. He ate some of his salad as normal during the afternoon but I'm really worried about him not eating his crickets. Due to the wonders of mobile phones (being a little sarcastic .. sorry) I'm unable to get to speak to our friends at the moment so any advice would be appreciated folks.

Feel free to email or pm me

Cheers

Jon

Yeah, don't be to worried my beardie does this from time to time, espically when hes been pigging out on veg.

Has the beardie pooped recently? As it could need to poop or just have a nice warm bath to help it come through... Also is the beardie shedding?

He pooped on Tuesday afternoon but nothing since, so I take it that he may need a little help ...... hence the bath ???

Apparently hes due to shed anytime now ... but has showed no signs of it yet

Hmm, yeah i'd recommend a bath to help things move on a bit. Its probably nothing to worry about. If you get a large bowl of some kind which he can swim about in or your bath tub. Fill it up to about half the length of his arms so he can still stand up in it, then make sure it is not even remotely hot to the touch or cold at all, it should be just warm.

Leave him in there for about 10-20 mins making sure it dosent go cold, then dry him off with a clean towel or somthing and put him back into the viv, don't be surprised if he poops in the bath either

Default Still no luck - beardie feeding

Have bathed Georgie and yes the poop thing worked just fine.

He dried off on his rock and I have tried him again with his crickets....

Still no luck ..... appears to be turning vegetarian on me !

Haha, it's nothing to be worried about. If hes going to shed, alot of beardies... Mine particularly will go off his crickets and veg for about a week, i tend to leave a few crickets loose in there and he will eat them if he wants to, checking up regularly and taking them out of a night.

I really wouldnt worry too much.. Some beadies do go off their food if they are going to shed.. Just keep offering them to him. If he seems otherwise active and is eating the odd bit of salad really dont worry too much.

Sounds perfectly normal to me, one day they might eat lots and another very little. Mind you five crickets is not a lot, ours go through a bag of 100 each week. They dont always poop every day either.
It is worth checking the temperatures are okay - because if the heater was faulty and went off then the lowered temperature could be a reason for not eating.
Also bear in mind that it may not act its usual self if it has been moved around to a temporary home, it could be a little stressed.
