Welcome To The Forum Luke,

The Vivarium Shouldn't need to be physicly modified in anyway at all. The only think you may have to do is drill a hole at the bottom of one side (on the back panel) Low enough for a heatmat wire. But some of the new products have aready drilled holes (but i believe this is only the top).

Other then that, Basicly just dress the vivarium up. Decor, Substrate, Hides, Waterbowl, Etc. Etc.

Cheers for theat mate. Is it safe to put a heat mat inside a wooden viv? I intend to use a thermostat. Also i'm building a fake rock bacground out of polystyrene and grout would that effect the efficiency of using a heat matt?

No Worries. And Yeah, It Is The Only Way To Maintain A Heat Supply Steadily (Inside). If Its Kept Under the wood, Then It Will Be Even More In Risk Of A Fire, And Objects/Vivariums Below May Over Heat Etc. I Wouldn't Think The Background would effect it, depending on how far the Background comes out, I wouldn't of thought so.

If making a fake background, I Would play about with the temeprtures untill you get them correct before fiddling about while A Gecko Is Inside. Although Im Sure You Were Going to do that anyway

Of course! I plan on setting the viv up over the next couple of months, got a couple of books to read, when they finally arrive! The only other thing i have thought about is perhaps involving some live plants but i'm put off because of the lights they would require, as leo's are nocturnal - do you reckon this would be a problem? I aren't talking about lots of plants probably just a money plant or two, kept quite small, these are hardy, drought tolerant plants found in arid habitats - i've also checked on a list( i can't remember where) that they are not harmful to Herps.

You can get some safe water plants and put it in a small pot with mesh over the top so the leo cant drown in it as most water/sea-plants dont need alot of light, are you going to be leaving the viv in a naturally light room?

Also red lights dont really disturb a lizard at night when they are out, so if you wanted to get some live potted plants then you could always use a red light for 4-6 hours a night over the plants.

Oh AND (sorry, I could go on forever!) Ikea sells water bamboo (I dont know if these are safe?) that you buy in little plastic tubes that you could fill with water and bury the tube underneath some substrate. But otherwise, if you are going to put the viv in a naturally lit room then a money plant would be a great choice as its difficult to kill them if the leo (
for whatever reason lol) decides it looks tasty - they just grow back.

Cool. Yeah it will be in a light room, but the viv is wooden on all sides except the front so i would reckon that even though money plants are hardy they would require some supplementation of light. Would red light work for plant? I intend to get a red light anyway so i can view the leo's at night. Also might it be worth getting some kind of UV type of spot light to direct at the money tree/s? I am really keen to use money trees as i reckon they are very aesthetically pleasing!

Sorry I Can't Help With The Live Plants, But You Can Get Just As Good Fake Plants, That Will Go Nicely With A Desert Theme. I Wouldn't of thought an Infa Red Light Would Be Sufficent For The Plant, But I Could Be Wrong. I've Seen Products Called Air Plants? I'll See What i Can Find For You Mate. But If You Have Your Mind Set On The Money Plants, Then By No Means, Go For It. It's Just Difficult To Draw The Line In terms Of Enough UV For The Plant, But So Little Full Spectrum Light For The Nocturnal Leopard Gecko?

Yeah, thats it mate, at the end of the day i want the enclosure to be benificial for the leo's. If i can include a couple of money plants then its a bonus. Cheers for seeing what you can find for me. Appreciated!

I Suppose The Leopard Gecko Will be In A Hide All Day, I.e While The Light Could Be On For The Plants. A Repti Glo 2.0 Would Be Sufficient, Or Any Standard UV Bulb Really. But Heres What I Was Looking For, I Believe they don't need Light. I Haven't done much research into them, But I think they just great sprayed with the solution (which i imagine is safe to reptiles, as its on a reptile traders website) and they grow from there...
