Hi in my 4ft I use 100watt...the 60 will not heat up the viv sufficiently, when you say 106 where is that temp exactly, is it right on the basking spot or surrounding? mine reads at the moment 116 exactly under the bulb but only a five inches away 106.....ambient 91 and cooler end is 85 controlled by a dimmer...

thanks for all the answers

its 106 around 5 inches away from rock i tested basking area and its 127 which has to be far to hot???

just under 90 at other end
can i use a dimmer for the lamp?

or if i was starting from scratch what would be the best heating wise??

can you use a dimmer for the lamp? you SHOULD be using a dimming thermostat for the lamp.
