Default Hi all another newby...

Hi new to the forum and reptiles. But had a good read and a bit dizzy from all the info I have read so far

Have posted a coupla times already but thought had better say hi myself. I love the idea of getting a bearded dragon or two. Would this be ok ? Only have experience with rats and not supposed to get em singly so wondering about beardies.

Plan on making my own viv 4x2x2 (going in bedroom) Are they noisy at night? I know they aren't nocturnal. Made my own rat cage so only thing that worries me about making the viv is where to find the door runners and get the glass cut.

Oh yes and where to get my baby/babies from when viv is sorted. Not keen on pet shops, got my ratties via a forum so would appreciate any ideas as to where to go for them when the time comes. (not too long i hope)

Anyway thanks for reading and hope to spend many happy hours on this forum.

Hello and

I don't keep beardies myself, but I think the general advice seems to be that they are best kept individually. If you're looking for a good care sheet, try this looking here. As for where to buy them; personally, I'd check out the classified section on here (there are always plenty of beardies for sale, especially now as it's right in the middle of the breeding season). Before you buy though, check out the posts that the seller has made on the forum and their i-trader rating for any previous transactions, just to make sure that they are a reputable breeder and not a scammer (although scammers make up a minority of advertisers, sadly they do exist).

Good luck and enjoy the new additions!

What you'll discover if you get a beardie is that when the lights go out they lie down where they are and go to sleep, so no noise. I was at the reptile show in essex today and there were a huge range of beardies at good prices from hatchling up to adult size so a good ploace to go to get one as you'll have a massive choice

Yeah beardies do best on their own, iv heard countless times on the forums where people have two beardies in one viv, they start to fight as they become mature, and they need another viv. i personally have two beardies, in two seperate vivs.

Hope this helps

Smile thanks

thanks everyone.
was wondering about the number cos have read that some people here do keep two together but maybe not a good idea for a first timer....

Maybe I will just build 2 vivs instead

Hubby wud love that.... Tho he as been looking at the pics here and they are growing on him....Kids can't wait but I cant build that fast.

Hope to get it done soon tho cos dont wanna miss out on the beardie babies..

Would it be worth going to the show in Doncaster in September? Read a bit about it on the forum.

Hi! and welcome!! you will get loads of help and friendly advice on this forum its the best! You must be very clever building your own cages, vivs etc, good on ya, good luck with your beardies, yes keeping 2 together can be problematic, there are usually plenty around for sale inc adults with set up, only prob with beardies at night time is the crickets left over in the viv may sing all night long!!!! Good luck! And have fun!
