Default Very Sad Rehoming 3yr Chocolate Lab

Hi,

Due to extreemly unfortunate circumstances I am having to re-home my Chocolate Labrador Retriever Barney. He is 3 years old and very well trained. He of course is house broken, he is also both command and whistle trained and loves swimming.
I acquired Barney through the Labrador rescue service. He was mistreated when he was very young which has given him some joint problems as he has become older. Barney was prescribed some medication by the vet (Meticam) but I have found it’s not needed as he no longer shows signs of pain. As it gets colder he may need some medication but only if he shows he is pain.
(I have made his condition sound far worse than it really affects him) However care must be taken when walking him with anything high impact on his knees. Ie. Jumping, sprinting and turning quickly.

I have tonnes of pictures available upon request and have put a picture on the other pets section undr "Barney!".

Barney is great with kids and other dogs and loves to play and carry things for people. He is not vocal at all.
I limit his walks to two 45 minute walks per day, in the AM and then again after his dinner (This is the most he should really do due to his elbows) Swimming, he is unlimited. He loves to swim and should be encouraged to retrieve things from water.

He does like lots of fuss and is very keen on company.

Anyone interested in re-homing Barney can PM me. Please include details of your experience with dogs and how Barney will fit in with you at home. If you have kids, dogs, other pets etc.

He is a fantastic dog and this is the most heart breaking decision I have ever had to make.
I would encourage anyone interested to come for a visit, come out on a walk with Barney and then return home to sleep on it.
Then if still interested come back and collect him.

Barney had it rough up until he was 6 months old. His life since then has been great and I want him to continue to have the best. So who ever takes him on needs to bear this in mind!

Please understand my difficulty with this decision and PM me accordingly.

Many Thanks

Matt

So sorry to hear that and if I didn't have so many cats, I'd take him.

My first dog was a yellow lab and I loved him - I was devastated when he died! I've always wanted a chocolate lab too, but the time is not right for us to get another dog yet. Sorry

Hi,

Sorry folks, I just cant do it.

Barney will be staying with me and them coming to America with my wife and I when we immagrate in a few months time.

Cant bear the thought of leaving him and would never be satisfied anyone else would give him the home I think he deserves. It would haunt me for the rest of my days in fact.

Thanks for all the kind words and offers to re-home him.

Matt

Matt - you're a star!!

I must admit I couldn't leave my dog or any of my cats behind, so I well understand where you're coming from.

Can't even leave ours behind when we go on holiday so they all come with us - even when we had 10!!

Thanks,

I was almost in bits when I was typing, its suprising how devestating it can make you feel.
I guess its daft really but when we go out walking at night its just the best feeling in the world.
Its something I really dont want to give up on. So yes, best news all round!
Gave him some extra fuss this morning and told him sorry I almost booted him out.
I think after his breakfast treats and belly scratch he forgave me!
