Default Pony/horse.... need some help, think its time to contact someone...

Near my college there is a science park, offics etc etc, bag in the middle there is a pices of grass, and oddly a pony/horse on it. its small and black and white, gypsy horse.

today was teh first time i have ever seen water and food there, a lil bit on the floor, and a bucket. its tethered to the middle of this grass, has no shelter no nothing. and ..

it looks sad.. always has its head down, and can hardly move. it doesnt look nin bad shape though..

what should i do?

i would just keep your eye on it,check that it has water ,and if it looks ok in condition, then it might be sombodys ,who has just tetherd it up for grass,or it could be a gypsys horse
if you get worried call the rspca x

You would probably find it is a native bred pony and, in this weather, they do tend to stand and look rather forlorn.

My two are doing just that in a field with a stable that they refuse to use.

It may be that there is something wrong with it but if there's food it's unlikely to be in trouble. Someone is obviously tending to it.

Sometimes people with little knowledge of horse/pony care think that there is a problem and call the RSPCA etc. It is often just wasting their time.

I was once visited by an RSPCA officer as some stupid woman insisted my ponies should be fed and stabled in the Summer months.
They were in a field with 'more grass than they could eat in a lifetime' , as the inspector said, with a stable they 'chose' not to use.

If you are still worried then get in contact with the RSPCA they may well know of the pony already.

Lots of people tether their ponie
I don't really agree with it but it's not illegal.
It should have a 30-40 ft tether so that it can get to fresh grass!!!!!!
If it 'literally' cannot move more thn a few feet then the tether may have become tangled?????

Keep an eye on it and if this is the case and you aren't prepared to untangle it yourself then I would, at that point, contact someone else to help.

Really the only thing you can do is keep an eye on it.

Unfortunately, it's not illegal to tether a horse, so unless the horse looks to be in poor condition, there isn't much the rspca can do anyways. They can try to education the owner if the owner can be found, but that's it.

They don't bother as the main people who tether are 'travellers'.
As far as the RSPCA are concerned it has to be televised before they do anything.

There have been a couple of abandonments in my area recently though so keep and eye out in case this is another one of those.

I completely agree with you there on the uselessness of the rspca!!! No camera, they aren't bothered. I don't think it is right that they can pick and choose which animal they "rescue".

We have travellers near us and Ive rang the RSPCA about a few tethered ponys and they have always attended and usually get the owners to either move it or give more length to the tether so it is worth ringing them especially with the new laws.Yes the RSPCA are usually useless but they are definatey better than they used to be
