Default M.R.S.A. In my Dog

My dog has cut her tail 2 weeks ago and it had become infected. The anti biotic did not help and she had the tip removed and a culture sent to the lab. The results are scary, My Great Dane has MRSA !! She will probably be alright but the vet thinks I am one of the 20 million people (1 in 3) that carry it on my skin. I have been told not to go to anybody that has cancer not go to a hospital and I can't even go to my cousins christening. What a nightmare, I feel like a leper

Dogs and other animals can give humans MRSA and vice versa.

That is a frightening thought for any animal keeper

I am a Trustee of an animal sanctuary. A volunteer found a stray cat with an underarm collar injury that wouldnt heal that tested positive for MRSA.She has been advised to stay away from the sanctuary until the cat is clear by her vet but that is all. Are you sure your dog didint pick this up from the vets. How do they know you are the carrier or have you been tested??? Interested that is all. I sometimes think medical people are to quick to blame other things when the cause is down to themselves

Since when has MRSA been transferable to animals? Havent heard of this before. But then im no master in animal virology.

Anyway MRSA is almost impossible to contain its a miracle most health services are doing it at all at the moment. MRSA is resistant to alcohol and most bleach scrubs and starting to become resistant to drugs that treat it i.e. VRSA.

Also i know i carry MRSA on me since i worked with a family member who had it.

Unfortunatley MRSA is becoming more common in animals and veterinary sugeries, (not saying that this is where the dog picked it up from).

Just make sure you have good hygiene measures in place when handling the dog etc. Keep open sores covered, wear gloves etc. Has your vet given you any advice?

yes we have had top advice and she is getting better.

I fear that super bugs are going to be more and more of a problem. 200 years time are half of us going to be wiped out ? Nature has a way of dealing with overcrowding. But I suppose none of us will be around to find out!

I honestly hope so. Mankind is more of a plague on the planet so we need to be controlled and vaccinate the world from our infection. Of course our own human rights stop us from doing this ourselves so if mother nature can find a way to kill off a couple billion I'd be happier.

Not in a sadistic way of course, just that it would be a better quality life for the remaining humans as well as the world itself and it might not die within the next few millennia.
