Default Poor little fat head

A few of you will know that Rio, my staffy cross is my pride and joy (don't tell Wilo that though) and last week he had a lump cut out of his mouth.

The vets wanted to send it off for tests and they came back today.. cancer although according to the vet its not a cancer that spreads.

I have 2 options:
1 - leave it and see what happens but if it comes back they won't be able to do anything and hope it doesn't get too uncomfortable for him.

2 - Have an operation to cut it all out. He might have to lose some teeth and part of his jaw bone but they normally recover well and cosmetically everything is ok.

He's booked in for the op on Tuesday and i'll admit i'm scared cos he could be old. I've had him 5 years and they didn't know how old he was but guessed at 5 / 6. I'll be lost without him he's the jam in my pudding, the pain in my arse and everything else.

The op is going to cost £600 but i'm taking a couple of days off to look after him so i'll lose £120 a day wages which i can't afford... so if anybody wants to donate the 'help the Rio fund' i'll put my paypal address up

Poor Rio....

I hope the operation goes well and he recovers quickly.

Strong dogs these little staffie crosses, even if they do cost us a fortune

thanks...

he is, when he had the lump cut out the vet told me to remember he'd had an operation as he'd forgotten already - 5 hours after having it.

Iahve had many pets going through ops and i know exactly what you are feeling. I'm sure he will be fine, staffies are strong dogs, even if they are the whingiest/ most shivery and cryers once at the vets. I always know if my vet has a staffie in as i can hear them from the waiting room.

Our family dog, Reg, is a 16 year old, smelly and lazt staff. He had an operation on his back legs last year and he recovered well. He has had a few ops and by far the worst was his castration, he looked very sorry for himself that afternoon and walked like John Wayne for a couple of days!

Good Luck. Give him a hug from me.

Well the op went ok but he's still at the vets and needs another morphine jab at 6. I can collect him after half 6 and will need to speak to the vet. Hopefully it's just for him to tell me he'll need to rest for a few days etc etc and not to give me some bad news..
