They're endangered? I live in the city and we have plenty around here... they steal the catfood left out and rummage in bins.. my dogs are always barking at them at night and they get themselves run over a lot too

As far as I'm aware, hedgehogs aren't on the endangered list, but they are protected and there is no question that their numbers are dwindling
They're on Schedule 6, which means they "may not be killed or maintained by certain methods", whatever that means, alongside bats, badgers, red squirrels, wildcats etc etc.

We have a family of hedgepigs live in our garden
When a friend of ours was over for a visit last year (Yasmin for those who know her lol) we went out for a fag at about 1am and a little baby one was curled up outsdie the patio door!!! We lifted her over the concrete steppy thing we have and she legged it to catch up with mum and her siblings

How cute. Our Sanctuary is a registered Hedgehog caring facility but to be honest people leave them to long before bringing them in.ie;Its been in the garden for 2 days and hardly moved, Its Full of maggots I only noticed it 3 days ago, Its got a huge gash and its not healing(just afew examples)A lot of these hogs die even after treatment by our vet I think people dont know enough about them to judge when they need help.Last year we had 3 lots of mums and babies brought in because where they had nested was inconveniant and they had to go My friend does most of the hog care as she can release them all at her farm which backs on to a nature reserve. The amount of hogs that come to be fed is amazing. (If its safe to do so we do release them back where they came from)

Hedgehogs are definately endangered. They get killed by so many things- roads, bonfires, slug bait (they eat slugs), strimmers and lawn mowers, litter, milk which has been left out for them and makes them sick.... Global warming means they're out wondering around at all times of the year getting into even more mishaps. We found a hedgehog once which had just been run over. It had been a large one, and obviously a female since sat shivering next to her flattened body was a tiny baby. It had bits of it's mum stuck all over its spikes. We took it home in a box and gave it cat food and water but it sadly died before the rescue lady arrived.

Hi!
Dont get me going about Hedgehogs! Lol I am an expert on them. Yes, last September they were put on the Endangered list, as they have been in decline for many years now. It is estimated that if we don't do something now, in less than 20 years time they could be extinct So if you really do want to help, and you are in an area where you have them (or want to attract them), then please help by doing the following: Feed Them: Cat/Dog meat- This will have to be only Chicken flavours in Jelly, as fish or Gravy is bad for them. DO NOT feed them Bread or milk as they cant digest Bread and the Milk will just sit in their stomach were Bacteria will breed. Also for people who are mowing and Strimming> Please check the long grass you are cutting with a hand or foot before you cut the grass. Hedgehogs curl up into a tight ball when they hear the the strimmer or mower, and this is no protection for them, and many end up dead Anyway, there are a few things that you can do for European Hedgehogs, please consider doing one or both of the above things. Thankyou! Hamster Haven
