Ginny my oldest Gsd is now 13 1/2 years old. Her health has been failing for the past few weeks but tonight she is so miserable. She has arthritis in her left hip(this is a dog with 0/0 hip scores) which is now not touched by painkillers. She is drinking loads of water as well. Had her to the vet a few weeks ago to have her Put To Sleep but we came home with her and more medication. Tonight I feel we are now being unfair to her so I think tomorrow will be her final trip to the vets. I hate this part of loving animals, it sucks. She has been my friend and protector for 12 years and Ill miss her so much, we all will and Yes I will stay with her at the end and make her feel safe and loved.

awww i do feel for ya, sorry!!!...but they seem to no when they've had enough, they give you a look and a feeling...but you know its the best thing for her, i bet shes had an absolutly wicked life bless her, shell be in no more pain atleast!

sorry to here this hun going through the same thing with our gsd shes fading fast with her bk end and everything else altho shes younger but has big problems but think she will have to go soon before she gets worse at least shes had a good life am sure she will understand after all would you like to be as she is now xxxxx

Really sorry to hear what your going through. I know your sad but you should feel glad that you can make this decision for her and end her suffering.
I think we as animal keepers are in a way priveleged that we can take away our loved ones suffering and not have to sit and watch them fade away. I hope someone can do that for me when my time comes!

I'm so sorry to hear that honey. You're right when you say it's the hardest part of having animals. You've made the most dificult decision but you can be safe in the knowledge you’re doing what’s best for her. Big hugs to all of you from here.

I can recall a few years ago when both our dogs we put to sleep they both got cancer and I wasn't there when either died it's so hard to believe they're gone.
It's hard losing something after such a long time ours lived to 12 I think one and 13 or more. Been 3 years or so for one now.
