If it was me I'd be worried about a green discharge from any orifice - if only because green usually signifies infection!! Is this discharge coming from the anus or the vulva? If it's the vulva it could be a uterine infection, could even be a pyo which definitely needs treatment.
Whatever it is, like I said, green usually means bacterial infection and an anti-biotic to cure it! I would have her to the vet to get that checked out!

Don't feed her too much, what type of discharge is it? It is actually like a thick discharge, or could it be coloured stains from diahorrea? If she's had poor or sporadic diet feeding her too much could cause colic or other problems, so small meals regular, like a puppy, because her stomach will have shrunk. Keep her hydrated and in the cool shade in this weather, and as already stated I'd trim all the fur around the back end if you can to try and keep her clean.
You'll probably want to get her vaccinated and spayed, so if you're going to have to go to the vet anyway - you should probably go sooner rather than later and then you could get a full checkover, get her wormed, start the vaccinations, and discuss spaying options, I'm not sure how her age will affect those options now. When in heat there is a discharge after the initial bleeding is over but it's supposed to be clear, green isn't good... the vulva is often very swollen though. If she wasn't being looked after is there any chance she could be pregnant?

If she has faeces and hair matted around her bottom then you need to be really careful she doesnt get fly strike, esp as the weather has been so humid.
The green discharge def needs looking at by a vet, it sounds alot like a pyometra which is a potentially life threatening condition. Has she been vmiting or drinking more than you would usually expect. Good luck in getting her back into shape, sounds like she is going to need a lot of TLC. Let us know how you get on. |

There is a condition that is common in female dogs called vaginitis. It is generally due to infection and can be treated but is exactly like you described. When hair becomes matted it pulls at the skin and cause red inflamed areas and if this occurs around the rear end swelling can and will take place. Cut the hair back and bath her in warm water if she is up to it, a sponge bath can be good for soothing pain. DO NOT allow her to eat as much as she wants as this is not good. Any starving animal will gorge them selves but the body cannot take the load and can either vomit or end up not fully digested and diorhea which will not help her. Plenty of water and love but go to the vet with her and get her checked to be on the safe side.

green discharge is NOT normal season colour and the aswollen anus may well be impacted anal glands. If she is as bad as this it is an RSPCA case. You cannot try to sort this by yourself as if it is a pyo' it can kill her quickly from septicaemia. If I sound frantic, I am, as I have seen several pyo cases in my years (rescue cases) and only the immediate vet treatment can fix her. If you wait a few days to see if she gets better, she well die. It's going to cost you a pretty penny in vet bills but that's what's involved in rescue.
